The Bureau of Land Management approved Tri-State Generation and Transmission’s proposal to upgrade 80 miles of transmission line west of Montrose to Dove Creek, Colorado. This allows Tri-State to rebuild the existing line to operate at a higher voltage on federal lands. The BLM was the lead agency responsible for the project’s environmental analysis with help from the U.S. Forest Service, the Colorado Energy Office as well as Montrose, San Miguel and Dolores counties.
The project includes approving an amendment to expand the existing right-of-way. The original line was built in 1958.
